Trio Katara

                       
Trio Katara is a group formed by Panayiotis Diamantis, Kostis Kostakis and Sotiris Letsios. Three guitars and three voices give the trio a feel of old urban music taking their audience back to the '30s '40s and '50s in Athens, while utilizing at the same time harmonies and musical colors from other genres. Rebetiko songs mix with folk music from the islands and songs from rural Greece in order to create a rich musical experience for their audience. Their primary goal is to revive these old songs but also create new ones compining the old and contemporary compositional forms. The trio was born in 2014 in Athens and their name is a worldplay inspired by one of their favorite groups called "Trio Kitara", an old Athenian trio which is one of their main inspirations.



  • Panayiotis Diamantis was born in 1989 in Livadia, Greece where he grew up.  His first encounter with music started when he was six years old, when he started bouzouki and music harmony lessons in a local music school. At an older age he moved to Athens where he started to work as a musician while attending university at the same time. The role of the guitar in greek discography is what captured his attention to the guitar, which he plays until today.

  • Kostis Kostakis was born in 1986 in Nea Ionia, Greece. He started playing classical guitar when he was eight years old at a local music school and later on started playing electric guitar forming small bands with his high school friends. Rebetiko and folk greek music were always present in his life through his father who plays the accordeon.  He has been playing music in taverns and music scenes since he was eighteen years old.

  • Sotiris Letsios was born in 1990 in Karditsa , Greece where starts his musical journey. He started playing guitar when he was seven years old with several amateur guitar players and then at the local music school. He later studied music in the Ionian university. Today he lives in Athens where he works as a professional musician studying at the same time the presence of the guitar in greek discography from its beginnings until its present from.
